Atkinson Candy Reminds Trick-Or-Treaters to be Safe

“Trick-or-treating is a fun October 31st activity for kids of all ages and some simple tips can make the difference in a happy Halloween or a very scary one for parents,” according to Scott McElroy.

Here are 10 fun tips for you and your little ones so they have the best October 31st ever!

  1. “Go Into the Light.”-The more streetlights the better.  Selecting the right neighborhoods means more candy and less danger.  Only approach houses that are well lit.
  2. Use the “Buddy” System-Haunting is a team effort.  Parents, never let your child Trick-Or-Treat alone.  If they are older, make sure they’re with a responsible group.
  3. Have a Dress Rehearsal-Have your children try on their costumes before the big night to make sure there are no adjustments that need to be made.
  4. Be Scary, not Invisible-A flashlight or a glow stick should help keep everyone visible.
  5. Enjoy Treats, Not Tricks-Always inspect the candy your little one receives.  Discard items with questionable wrapping.
  6. Look Both Ways-Halloween is the perfect opportunity to teach your children the importance of looking both ways before crossing the street.
  7. Stay In Touch-If your child is Trick-or-Treating without you, make sure someone in the group can be reached at all times.
  8. Set a Curfew-Halloween is on Wednesday this year and that means school the next day.  Make sure your kiddos are home by a decent hour.
  9. Stranger Danger-Make sure your children know not to talk to or accept anything from strangers.  Educate your kids about suspicious behavior.
